Our biological families are not always as close as friends can be.
I met Charlotte when she moved to Mansfield.
My Maternal grandfather Wesley Freeman & George Griffin worked together.
George's wife Aunt Bea is my Paternal Grandmother, Lee Augusta Gilmore's sister.
Charlotte & I reconnected after Charleen was born while visiting Aunt Lee at her house in Cambridge.
From the 1970's on, we became best friends.
We were almost always together. If we were not, we gave each other the home phone number of where we would be. Especially if we dated someone new.
I will miss my Buddy, who never failed to embarrass me with her quick tongue towards others when we went out partying! She always said what was on her mind & seemed to get away with it gracefully. Charlotte & I would talk every day when she worked for the Snowden's at Freedom house.
During one of her property managements jobs, she overheard a conversation that was instrumental in solving my sisters murder in Roxbury in 1989.
We seemed to always know when each of us needed each other.
Everyone will miss her yearly cookouts, where young & old together, once a year, joined each other for comradery, food in abundance, good music & laughter on Labor Day weekend.
I shared 2 pics from the 2017 cookout in Charlottes backyard & 1 of how I remember her.
Best friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.
However,
I know I will see my cousin & best friend again!
