Obituary of Sidney Herbert Norman Robinson

Sidney Herbert Norman Robinson was born on September 27th 1926 to Frederick Robinson and Joannah Brown in Morant Bay St. Thomas Jamaica. Sidney was raised and cared for by his paternal grandmother Louise Robinson. As a young child he attended the All Age School in Morant Bay. Under the influence of his grandmother ( affectionately known as granny), at a very young age he became a member of Morant Bay Baptist Church. He was assigned the job as church bell ringer. Faithfully every Sunday he would clang the church bell to annouce the start of Sunday Worship Service. During the early 1940's Sidney migrated to the USA and resided in Brooklyn, New York while living in Brooklyn he worked as a laborer and cook. In the mid 1950's Sidney moved to Boston, Ma. reminded of his Christian upbringing he joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Roxbury, Ma., it was at Mt. Pleasant Church he met Ethel Sarah Kelley. They married in 1958. Their union lasted fifty two years until Ethel's passing in 2010. They were blessed with five children; Sidney Jr., Deridre, Joshua, Dana and Vernon. Sidney was a master in the art of culinary, a meticulous baker and cook. He was employed at Drakes Bakery and Kasanoffs Bakery for many years. After the closure of both plants, Sidney landed a job as pastry chef at the Boston Marriott hotel. Upon retiring he continued to work at local restaurants catering for social functions and events. Sidney was a sociable and outgoing man, who belonged to several community clubs. A member of the Windsor Sports Club as Captain of the cricket team, he led his team to win many victories. A lover of all sports; his favorites were baseball, hockey and football. Sidney and his sons would attend sporting events at Fenway Park, The Boston Garden and Franklin Field. For many years Sidney managed and supported the Black Philanthropy Club and Social Function Hall in Mattapan. A stylish man, always dressed in a button down shirt, tie and a sports jacket. Let's not forget his uncompromised shoe collection, when Sidney left out of his house he was dress to impress! We can't forget Sidney, the man who had a quiet demeanor and a smile that would not only light up a room, but would light up the hearts of many who he came in contact with. He loved life! Very active in his children's lives, he taught them many card games; spades whisk and crazy eights were just a few. Whether a trip to the circus, the park, the movies, bowling, skating, downtown or just out to eat, he did it all with his children. Sidney loved and enjoyed spending time with his many neices and nephews. They as well experienced his fun and loving ways. In 1994 Sidney's beloved grandson was born his pride and joy, Isaiah Robinson. The bond between the two was a match made in heaven. Isaiah completed his life accomplishments. Sidney was a devoted, kind, caring, and loving man, a stylish man with impeccable taste, an adventurer, a perfectionist and a philanthropist in his own right. A man who knew GOD. Sidney Herbert Norman Robinson GOD placed you everywhere you were to be. From the beginning of your worldly life to the end of your worldly life. You left us an amazing legacy.
