Obituary of Sims Sumpter, Jr.

Sims Sumpter Jr. (aka Sam) was the fifth child born to the late Sims and Leona Sumpter in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 28, 1956. Moving to Boston at an early age, he attended Martin Luther King Jr. elementary in Roxbury, Lewenberg Middle School in Mattapan; graduating class of Dorchester High School in 1976. In his early 30’s Sims professed and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of his life and was baptized on Good Friday March 13, 2009 at Lily of the Valley Baptist Church in Mattapan under former Pastor William Smith. Sims met and married Clemetina (Tina) Adams on February 14, 1976 from this union their beautiful daughter Thylia Kiwana Sumpter. Later he met the late Yvette Berry from this relationship his son Lamont Sims Berry was born on August 28, 1990. Throughout his adult years he was employed in various positions. He was Supervisor of House Keeping at the historical landmark Boston Lying In Hospital for Women. While employed he was proud of his first car purchased an Impala; he was so excited and proud to have his baby sister Karen to be first to ride in the car. He went on to become Prep Chef at Berklee School of Music; other positions included being employed at the Paper Company and as a Concession Stand Cook at Fenway Park. His favorite pastimes were playing basketball at the Joseph Lee School, watching basketball games, dancing, listening to music, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved attending, with his mother, gospel programs at various churches in Boston. Sims his survived by his siblings Karen (Wally) Sanders, Kenny, Bruce, Wendell, Mark, Donald Ray, Vaughnda, Cheri. His grandchildren Tyzaire, Syamaya, twins Tristan and Trinity, Elijah. He had a host of nieces and nephews, but he enjoyed a special relationship with his great-niece, Kyarah Sumpter, as well as nephews: Steven, David, Georgie, Jermaine, Dwayne and nieces: Aysha, Gloria, Sheba, Tremeice, Tina. His aunts and uncles Charlotte Harris of Boston, Cleophis Hill of Quincy, Freddie White of Woodbridge, VA, Dorothy and Wiley Mohammed of Houston, TX. Special friends: Louise Hannah, Mechelle Grays. His friends for life Arrington Parker, Jerry Beck, Antonio Mitchell, and Chucky Dooley. Preceded in death were his parents Sims and Leona, brothers George, David, and Anthony (Tony).
