Obituary of Mamie Ruth Gales

Our Beloved Mamie Gales Julia Morris Harrell, affectionately known as “Mamie” Ruth Gales was called home to her eternal rest on Tuesday, July 28th, 2020. Mamie was one of (5) children and the youngest daughter of the late James Harrell and Matilda White. Mamie was born in Nansemond County in Suffolk Virginia where she was raised and received most of her education in Edgecombe, NC, before later moving in her late teens to Portsmouth VA where she met and married Bobbil Gales, who was in the Navy. Through this union she raised (5) children. Bobbil Gales (in Chicago), Nathaniel Gales (Virginia), Valerie Gales (Brooklyn, New York), and later settled in Boston Ma, having Donnice Gales and Vivian Gale as well as raised Fredericka Golston. She worked for many years as a security guard at Alpha Security on Seaver St. then worked as a park ranger at Franklin Park. This was second to caring for her grandchildren whom she loved the most. Mamie was sharp, she could dress. She would put her hands on her hips and say “You better check my record” “Try me” “I pay the cost to be the boss” you knew she meant business. Although firm she loves all those welcomed in the home. She loved listening to gospel as well as the Temptations, The Isley Brothers “oldies but the goodies” “alright now” while bobbing her head. Nana truly knew how to party with style and class. Mamie was proceeded in death by her parents, James Harrell and Matilda White, her beloved son, Nathaniel Gales (3) sisters, Louise “Hattie” Howard, Dorothy Toler, Geneva E. Small and brother, James “Jimmy” Harrell. Mamie leaves to cherish her memory her children: Bobbil Gales, Valerie Gales, Donnice Gales, Vivian Gales and Fredericka Golston. Grandchildren: Dewayne, Bobby, Terence, Desiree, Trent, Nyasia, Natheena, Valerie, Nakema, Justina, Richina, Adema, Toddia, Charles, Leroy, (LiL) Donnice, David, Chantell, Murtalah, Monet, Michael ”JR”, Charisse Great, Grandchildren: Lanyshia, Kesean, Lamari, Jordan, Jahni, Jayce, Zion, Josiah “JoJo”, Nasir, Kanell, Rudii, Xavier and Lovely.
