Obituary of Manuel Andrade

Please share a memory of Manuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Manuel Andrade of Boston, MA, was called home to the Lord peacefully within his home on Wednesday, January 13 surrounded by his daughter Maria Miranda and grandchildren. Born in Fogo, Cabo Verde, on July 18, 1926, Manuel is the last surviving of 48 children. Manuel moved to Praia, Cabo Verde, at the age of 12 and later met his beloved wife Andreza “Pupupa” Andrade (pre-deceased). Manuel and Andreza raised their family in Achada Santo Antonio, Praia. Manuel was affectionately known by many as Manuel de Pupupa, a nickname given to him after meeting his wife and Papa. Manuel is survived by his children, Victorina Andrade (Vita), Maria Miranda (Zaza), Jose Andrade (Ze), Candido Andrade, Maria Dasilva (Dada), and Manuel Martins (Nai). A beloved father, “Papa,” “Abuelo,” and “Dono” to his 28 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. After the passing of his wife, Manuel immigrated to the United States of America in 1999. Manuel lived with his daughter Maria Miranda and her children, Kennedy Miranda, Marissa Miranda, Anibel Da Veiga, and Carla Xavier, until the day he passed. Manuel was the family storyteller. He gave the younger generation a glimpse of his youth and times spent with his siblings. His nieces lovingly recall Manuel’s stories of their father, who passed when they were young. Manuel loved spending time at the Cape Verdean Adult Day Health Center, where he would spend his days playing his favorite game Mancala (orinho), and joking with other center members. Manuel would spend his days entertaining friends and family with his stories and playful manner. Coach Jack, a beloved friend of Manuel for over 19 years, reminisced not even the language bearer between the two could keep Manuel from showing him love and appreciation. Manuel “Papa/de Pupupa” Andrade will be greatly missed. The world will not be the same without his wonderful soul. Manuel, the monarch of his family, has left behind many grief-stricken friends and family members.
