Obituary of Janice Deborah Niles

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

~As the sun was setting on Monday October 2nd, 2017, the Lord called home His good and faithful servant, Janice Deborah Puckerin Niles~

Janice was born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, to Norma Lord Puckerin and the late Aldwin Puckerin. She was the third of ten children.  She was educated at St. Theresa’s College in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and went on to receive her culinary degree from Newbury College in Brookline, Mass. Her professional career, as an Accountant and Social Worker aligned with her commitment to empower and impact change. Whether she was at the CIC Insurance Company in Trinidad, Reebok Company, Levenbaum Insurance Company or Baystate Social Services, Janice gave it her all.

Janice was blessed to have a daughter, Nia Millington, who she adored and established a beautiful relationship with through life ups and downs. She found a friend and a companion in Earnie Niles who she chose to marry. Although she comes from a very large family, she widened this reality by embracing a very large extended family, which includes all that came in contact with her.

Janice truly embodied the gift and calling of a mother to many. She was a committed Aunt to: Jilene, Chanell, Ashley, Candice, Stacey, Jerrel, Jenisse, Michael Jr, Marzuq, Sahhai, Kendra, Deon, Stephen, Jamila and Marvin.  She was known in the family as “Mother Theresa” because of her selfless love, forgiving heart and acceptance for all. These characteristics transcended into her active service within the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Janice was fully committed to her community where she lived and to all her family and friends. She enjoyed helping everyone she met and believed in keeping family together. She made it a point to have the family during the holidays; she would prepare her best Caribbean dishes and was proud to share her recipes with anyone.

Janice was nurtured in her early years in the faith & she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a person of strong faith and shared her love for God with everyone. Early in her Christian journey she was a member of New Testament Church of God in Trinidad, W.I., after migrating to the US she became a member of The Berachah Church. She later became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan, MA where she was a faithful member until her passing.

Janice leaves to cherish in her memory: her husband, Earnie Niles and her daughter, Nia K. Millington. She also leaves her siblings: her four sisters: Verna, Avril, Carol and Patricia; her four brothers: Richard, Albert, Michael and Rawle; and her Sister-in-law, Angie Puckerin. Janice also leaves her best friends: Jenny Lessey (of Trinidad), Gail Bishop and Nilda Centeio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Because of her example, care and tenderness in her role as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. Janice will be sorely missed. Greater than the sorrow of her passing is the Joy she has spread to us all throughout her life’s journey. Her legacy of wisdom and love will continue to guide us throughout our lives. She has left a mark on the hearts of many, that will not be forgotten.

Janice has fought a good fight, she has finished her course and has kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous shall judge us at that day to all them that love his appearing.
