Laurann Lento Black posted a condolence
Tuesday, May 1, 2018
To the family family and friends of Roberta (Robin) Adams.
My sincere condolences to you all. Roberta and I met during a very low time in my life and worked together closely for a few months. I quickly nicknamed her “Birdie” because she always took care of the broken birds — not actual birds — folks that otherwise might be dismissed, or thought of as “broken” or “less than.” (Although when we worked together she did like a particular woodpecker at our job site that others thought was a nuisance!) She called me LB.
Birdie’s smile, lit up a room. Her laugh, her random lovely songs, and (often bad) jokes turned a dark time into a celebration. (She could also hula hoop like a nobody’s business.) Above all else, she was a steadfast, fierce and devoted friend.
I have not had the pleasure of meeting her family. But she spoke of all of all of you with such pride and love.
We hadn’t seen each other for awhile. But we spoke on the phone frequently. When I couldn’t reach her on the phone for a bit I contacted her daughter and learned of her passing. I was devastated and remain deeply saddened. Then I hear her in my head “LB, life happens, death happens. Go feed the woodpecker.”
I visualize her smiling, laughing and hula hooping. And every time I see or hear a woodpecker, I know that heaven has such beautiful songbirds and she is one of them. ❤️
