Obituary of Augusta Jones

Please share a memory of Augusta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BOSTON - Augusta Jones, 85, passed away on May 12, 2021 at St Joseph’s Nursing Home in Boston. She was born on September 9, 1935 in Brooksville, Mississippi. Augusta is the daughter of Mattie Gray (Hudson) and the Reverend Richmond Gray. She moved with her family to Mobile, Alabama when she was 11 years old and lived there until she was in her twenties. She has also lived in Georgia and Florida and finally settled in Boston. She was born Annie Augusta Gray but changed her name legally to Augusta when she was a teenager because a close family friend who she described as her ‘second mother’ was named Augusta. Augusta was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, mother-in-law and friend. She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston for over 20 years where she served this nation's veterans honorably. Augusta had a huge heart and that is evident in the number of people that called her a friend. She laughed and smiled a lot and tried to enjoy life to the fullest. Augusta is survived by her five children; Mickie Bullock and her husband Robert Bullock Jr., Brenda Walker, Jerome “Shane” Walker, Tyerone Walker, Darius Walker Sr. and Mahalia Watson and two stepchildren; Vincent Jones and Denise Jones. She also is survived by her ten grandchildren and two step grandchildren ; Shawnté Walker and his wife Nicole, Shawn Card and his wife Erica, Robert Bullock III and his wife Trinika, Nikkia Walker, Jonathan Walker, Taylor Walker, Darius Walker Jr., Lee Walker Watson, Michael Jones, and Joesephus Jones. Along with her children and grandchildren she was blessed to have 7 great-grandchildren; Alanah, Madison, Justin, Brayden, Robert IV, Spencer, Taylor and many nieces and nephews. Augusta was preceded in death by her husband Sam Jones, her sister's Lizzye and Eliza and brothers Tommie, Jimmie, Julius, Derry and baby brother Richmond. Augusta was called by many names but our hearts all are sad for the passing of this phenomenal woman. So if you called her Mummy, Nana Walker, Nana Jones, Auntie or Gussie as her brothers and sisters did, you always knew that you were in the presence of someone special who cared deeply and had tremendous love for the people in her life.
