Obituary of Melvin Lee Maddox
Please share a memory of Melvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Melvin Lee Maddox, better known as “Magic,” was born to Lee Ella Brown and Oscar Bullard on August 26th, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Magic passed away on November 9th at the age of 60.
During his early years, he attended Charlestown high school and was known for his athletic abilities. Although he did not finish high school, he did get his GED and moved on to greater things in life.
Magic was very good with his hands and worked as a construction worker/ laborer, carpenter, and a painter. He enjoyed playing basketball, fishing, playing cards, going to the dog track, working out and cooking. Magic knew his way around the kitchen. His most requested dish was spaghetti aka “daddy’s goulash”, bread pudding and steak. His favorite food was seafood.
Magic had an affectionate smile and a distinctive laugh which lit up the room whenever he walked in. His charismatic personality enhanced his popularity throughout the community. Magic had a unique sense of style ~ flashy with a touch of old school swag. You can see him rolling down the streets in his latest collection of cars. He was known to cruise the city streets of Boston listening to his old school jams. His favorite artists were the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, Teddy Pendergrass, Blue Magic and Gangster Lean just to name a few. Magic was the hood GPS and knew his way around the city better than your local taxi driver.
Magic was very protective of family and friends. If there was an issue, he would take care of it in his own way. He looked out for others and inspired others to be their best. Those that knew him, knew he loved the streets, but family came first. Daddy’s words of wisdom to his children were, one never takes any mess from anyone and always stand up for yourself, two “never let the left hand know what your right is doing” and three "always trust your gut because it will never steer you wrong." Despite his unfortunate end, he was resilient and preserved through the tough times.
Magic leaves behind his three siblings Odell Maddox, Jessie Maddox and Travis Green. Magic is survived by his longtime partner and caregiver, Saliha Gardner, his seven children: Nakeish Little, Melvin L Maddox Jr, Charday Lewis, Shandolyn Chavis, Monique Potts, Ariana Gardner and Meka Potts, his aunts: Pastor Ferguson and Mary Harris, his siblings through Oscar Bullard: sisters Tracey Bullard, Terri Hinton, and many brothers. Lastly, he leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Magic also leaves behind eleven grand-children and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Magic will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Daddy may you suffer no longer. It may hurt our hearts to see you leave, but we are glad you are in Heaven with Nana. Love you always.
