Obituary of Doris Joan Hunt

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Joan Hunt, the daughter of Bernice and Harvey Joseph Fisher, was born on August 2, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA. Doris grew up in Philadelphia, and after graduating high school, she moved to New York at the age of eighteen. Shortly after moving to New York, Doris started a career at the post office. She lived in New York for twenty years, where she became a mom to her four beautiful daughters. In 1976 she and her family relocated to Boston. Doris was a home health care nurse and later attended Dimock Community Health Center to become a medical secretary. In 1989, Doris started working at Boston Public Health Commission as an Administrative Assistant in the payroll department. In addition to her position, she coordinated various work activities, the coffee club, and planning all staff luncheons, where she became known for her cabbage and her trotters. Her co-workers would often say, “Doris, that’s the best cabbage and trotters I’ve ever had.” Doris went on to retire after twenty-eight years with Boston Public Health Commission. Many knew Doris as “Mamma D” and “G-Mom.” She was loving, generous, kind, and full of life. She loved music, dancing, and traveling. Doris was known by many to have an infectious laugh, and when she said “Chilllllllle” you knew something good was coming. She had a fantastic sense of humor and was genuinely loved by everyone that knew her. Spending time with her family is what she enjoyed the most. Doris also enjoyed planning her annual weekend ski trip. She was in a bowling league, and she loved traveling to Aruba and St. Maarten. She loved going to the senior center, where she became close friends with her Bid Whist group. Doris leaves to cherish in her memory her four children: Renee Golphin (Michael), Desiree Fagan (Jeff), Terri Wilson (Ernie), and Janine Mathews. Doris had seven grandchildren, Michelle Boykins (Sonny), Crystal Hall, Sarita Wynder (Tayon), Alicia Kellum (Ryan), Sabrina Maloney, Nicole Golphin, and Jayla Cayruth. She also leaves her six great-grandchildren: Jaleeah, Dashae, Taylor, Jordan, Kingston, and Gabrielle, along with four great great-grandchildren. Doris was also a loving aunt to Vanessa, Kerry, Michael, Darryl, Tyrone, and Jay Fisher. Her one and only sister, BettyAnn’s children. Doris also leaves over forty-one great-nieces and nephews, over forty-eight great-grandnieces and nephews, and a host of close friends who she also considered being her family. Doris J. Hunt is united with her parents: Bernice and Harvey Fisher, her sister BettyAnn Fisher; as well as her two nephews, Paul Fisher and Scofield Fisher, Jr. ~ ‘til We Meet Again!
