Obituary of Carl D. Purdy, Jr.

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl Dewayne Purdy Jr., affectionately known as “Bud”, “Junior” or “Old Man” was born in Boston, MA, to his loving parents, Mary E. Purdy and Carl D. Purdy Sr. During his formative years, he was a strong, passionate and active young man. He attended Job Corps to learn a trade. In his late teenage years, he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces. While he served in the Army, he was stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky. Following his years of service, Carl was honorably discharged after three years of service. After his time in the army, he went on to culinary school through the Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) program ServSafe. As a result of his participation, Carl was awarded a certification in management. Carl was an industrious hard-worker. Over the years, he was employed as a sous chef, construction worker, and security guard. Some knew him as a handyman stating, “if he wasn’t cooking, he was definitely somewhere being a handyman.” Carl was loved. He was outgoing and loved meeting new people. Spending time with family and friends over a good meal was the most enjoyable time for Carl. He loved to cook and grill. Breaking bread with loved ones highlighted his comedic nature and his amazing storytelling skills. Music and poetry were hobbies that he enjoyed. Carl’s talent for speaking with people and his ability to turn “bathroom-free styles” into unofficial jam sessions highlighted his talent as a beatboxing entertainer. Recently, Carl had the chance to record a song with Jaron and AJ. Thanksgiving, watching WWF, and then WWE matches and paintball were also things that he enjoyed immensely. Carl was committed to his faith. Before he transitioned, he was studying to become a Jehovah’s Witness. Before Covid, he was able to attend meetings consistently, and he participated in one on one Bible study. At Kingdom Hall, Carl participated in group Bible study sessions that fostered his growth and fellowship with other believers. Carl was a man for the people. He was a servant leader. He never missed an opportunity to help others by supporting a local business with handiwork or cooking a Thanksgiving meal for his neighbors. He wouldn’t let anyone go hungry, whether you were family or someone he had just met. Selflessly, Carl would not eat himself until everyone else had a chance to eat. He was a great man. Carl is preceded in death by Mary E. Purdy (Mother), Carl D. Purdy Sr. (Father), Sisters - Carlotta Purdy & Theola Purdy, Brothers - Carl Purdy II and Larry Purdy. He leaves to cherish: Noreen Mulkern (Significant Other), Three Sons - Carl Dewayne Purdy III (LaToya), Albert Joshua Ryan Berry (Sarah), Jaron Armand Purdy (Aysha.)
