Obituary of James E. Worrell, Jr

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James E. Worrell, Jr., affectionately known as “Poopie”, was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was the eldest of six children born to the late James E. Worrell Sr., and Lucy Worrell (Hall) He attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Boston Trade High School. Poopie grew up in Bromley Heath and had a group of friends he dealt with regularly. I can’t name everyone, but you know who you are. He resided in Brockton, Mass until his recent passing. After he served in the army, he worked various jobs such as cab driver and as a welder at Quincy Shipyard. He was also an entrepreneur buying and selling various items. He retired from Stop & Shop after 20+ years and was a great employee. He received numerous awards while working there. There were many children that James was a father figure to. One in particular was Wayne Salley. They were very close, and did a lot of things together throughout the years. One of his favorite things was staying in touch with family mostly by having brunches or lunches all around Boston at least once a month. He also stayed in contact with his out of state family members by traveling to see them in Pittsburgh, PA, New York, Florida and various other states. He is survived by his children James Carrington, of Boston, MA; Brenden Kennedy, of Pawtucket, RI; and Aviana Worrell, of Washington, DC; along with grandchildren Jaymie, Johnnie, and Jaleel and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Charlene Coble, of Dorchester, David Worrell of Dorchester, Lynne Worrell McCray of Jamaica Plain, Mark Worrell of Minnesota, and Laura Worrell of Jamaica Plain. He was a beautiful person, if you needed something he would try the best he could to help you. The family of James E. Worrell, Jr. would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for your support, prayers, visits and all other acts of kindness during this time. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or Joslin Diabetes Center.
