Q: What will you never forget about Reverend Benjamin?
A: What I will never forget about my uncle Ben (who I called Frank as did his mother), is all the phone calls. He would check in frequently on me. As he did with all of his nieces and nephews. He wanted to know how we were doing, how the jobs were going and how our family was doing.
He was so proud of all of us and often spoke about how he appreciated that we took life seriously and that were raising our children properly. He stressed education and checked on our kids progress throughout their school and college years. He made sure to send trophies and signed documents from the Senate to show his appreciation of our children's success.
He had done so much in life, and he made us proud as well. His artistic abilities earned him to two gold keys, his sketches were to be marveled. He was a great musician, wherein he played many instruments and was a member of many bands throughout Boston. He loved sports, he played basketball, some baseball, and loved to bowl. He became the First African American in 1999 to be inducted into the International Candlepin Bowling Association and was nicknamed "The Legend".
Every time we talked during the past several years, he had this great yearning to come home to Alabama to his youngest sister and nieces and nephews and to visit his younger sister and niece in Tennessee. He wanted to see all of his family, have a large gathering with lots of food that he loved. He said let's put it together, which mean all of us who had he discussed this idea with...he asked the question "do you mind doing this?" and I replied no I don't mind.
My uncle was concerned about our souls and wanted talk to all of us about our relationship with God...we assured him that was no to worry and that we all believed, trusted, served and loved the Lord...he was pleased to know that....
Oh, how I will miss talking and listening to him relive his school days, his upbringing, his days working in the Senate, and family....
We as a family are truly grateful for the life of our uncle and that it was well-lived...
Therefore, I won't say goodbye, just I'll see you later. Rest assured there is and will be a "LATER" for those of us love the Lord and await HIS appearing!!!

Q: What will you never forget about Reverend Benjamin?
A: I will never forget how radiant my uncle was. He had such a positive outlook on life. Uncle Ben was also the only real father I had while growing up in Boston. He help my mother, his sister Ada, with all needed for me and my brother. He stressed education, and awarded all his nieces and nephews for accomplishments. I am just so proud of the wonderful example of a family man that he was. He was a husband, a man who encouraged all around him, and the greatest uncleever. I will never forgot all of his many accomplishments as a true servant of the Lord.
With love from your niece Ardes, husband Greg Peaster and your great niece and nephew, Tiffani and Lavell. We thank you for your love.

Q: What will you miss most about Reverend Benjamin?
A: You were a great mentor and kept us all in line under The Gold Dome. I always admired how particular and protective you were about people entering that Senate Chamber. Our many talks, our rides to get good soul food, the Hubbart Youth Bowling league, helping you organize the program and the many awards you gave to the community. I always played your favorite videos of the Dells, The Ebonys “You’re The Reason Why”, “I’m In Love” by Wilson Pickett, and your boys The Trammps. I always felt better after talking with you whenever my day would be rough on “The Hill” and you would always talk me back into shape. Thank you for being you, you were a man of God, and a father to many of your community in and outside the walls of 24 Beacon St. Take your rest “Hollywood Ben”.
