Obituary of Bishop Michel Louis

In Loving Remembrance of Reverend and Bishop Michel Louis

Reverend and Bishop Michel Louis, affectionately called “Papa Da”,

 was born on June 26th, 1951, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the late Phillip

and Mercilia Louis. He was called home to Glory on January, 15, 2019.

 Assuredly, there was rejoicing upon his arrival.

Reverend and Bishop Michel is survived by his loving wife of almost

 40 years, Mrs. Gladys (Frederick) Louis; Sons, Rev. Jean Joel Manasse,

Daniel & Nathanael Louis; Daughter, Debora Louis; Daughter-in-Law,

Katlyne D. Louis; Brother, Rev. Alexander Valme; Sisters, Mureille Prophete

and Odette Louis; Grandsons, Joshua Dimitri, Micah Israel Christopher,

and Josiah Jean Michel Louis; Granddaughter, Gabrielle Mersilia Louis;

 Special Daughters, Rose Dorgilus and Mona Pierre. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, Eglise De Dieu De La Pentecote Libre (F.P.C.G) and

 La Nouvelle Eglise De Dieu De La Pentecote church congregations;

his extended family and many close friends.

From an early age, Rev. Michel surrendered his life to the Lord and felt the call of God upon him and he lived his life in the pursuit of fulfilling the purpose of

Almighty God.  Even when it came to choosing a spouse, he sought for the woman he felt was the most Godly, this in essence was the true posture of his heart.

 Rev. Michel was a man that was searching after the heart of God.

Born and raised in Port-Au-Prince, he attended Seguy Villevalex for his primary school education, and later attended Lise Petion.

Rev. Michel became the Youth President of L’Eglise de Dieu Poste Marchand in 1969, where he had the oversight of all youth related operations. A natural born leader,

he groomed and prepared many young people for various areas of ministry and life;

an impact and influence that will live on infinitely. It was during his ministry time at Poste Marchand that he would meet his lovely wife Gladys.  After an 8 year courtship, they were wedded on August 20th, 1979 and welcomed

 their first child on December 3rd 1980.

Shortly afterwards, Rev. Michel migrated to Brooklyn, New York

and remained there for about 1 year and relocated to Boston, Massachusetts.

In the fall of 1983, Rev. Michel was officially ordained as a Minister of the Gospel, by his eldest brother, the Reverend Alexander Valme. Rev. Michel lead Eglise De Dieu De La Pentecote de Boston (later, La Nouvelle Eglise

De Dieu De La Pentecote).  

The ministry began to flourish and grow, until the purpose of God led him to give birth to a new ministry, Eglise de Dieu de La Pentecote Libre (F.C.P.G.), where he presided as Senior Pastor, friend, mentor, father, brother, supporter, disciplinarian and ‘enforcer’ for 25 years, until under the direction of the Almighty God and thorough review, Rev. Michel in a transfer of Pastoral Leadership had the pleasure of installing first born son, Rev. Jean Joel Manasse Louis as succeeding Senior Pastor. On July 7th, 2018, Rev. Michel after having the experience, wisdom and having been operating in the office for many years before was officially consecrated and elevated to the office of Bishop.

Bishop Michel served on various committees, including serving as President of the Haitian Pastors Association of New England. He was a visionary, a trail blazer, an innovator and a man of God, who would not compromise the Gospel. Those who loved him, truly loved him and, honestly, some were challenged by his unwavering stance and defense of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In July 2012, Bishop Michel added the title of “Hero” to his illustrious life resume when he refused to allow Egyptian capturers to forcefully abduct a parishioner under his care during a Holy Land Pilgrimage. He stood up and offered himself for parishioner and for 4 days both were captured and then miraculously released.  

In the heart of it all, Bishop Michel was a true servant. He truly served God and people. It did not matter who you were, friend and foe alike, he would always lend a helping hand. He never allowed the actions of others to change who he was; a man of God and a man of the people. The Homegoing of Bishop Michel Louis is an earthy loss that will be felt for generations to come because his influence spanned several generations.

The Home Going Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Jubilee Christian Church located at 1500 Blue Hill Avenue, Boston MA. Viewing starts at 8:00am; Service starts promptly at 10:00am. Interment at St. Michael Cemetery.
