Obituary of Althea D Wright

Please share a memory of Althea to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Althea Delores Wright, affectionally known as Al, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021 in the embrace of her sister, JoAnne and “adopted” sister Felicia. This beautiful soul, temporarily loaned to us by God, was born September 24th, 1950 to John H. and Sarah (nee Smith) Wright. Althea embraced and lived a life of her own making and on her own terms. She knew what she wanted, and she went after it until she achieved it. In doing so, she also taught others to do the same; right up to her transition. She expected, no demanded, that others do the same in pursuing their hopes and dreams To know her was to know a person who loved unconditionally, but also drove you to follow your path. She urged you to gain the necessary knowledge so that your decisions were made solely upon your full understanding and consent. No regrets, no excuses – that was Althea. Her love of family and friends was evident in how she supported and counseled so many towards achieving their life’s aspirations. As she always said…….” follow your dreams, follow your mind, and if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it despite what others make think or say. Only you will know if it’s right, and if it isn’t, don’t. Don’t make decisions on what others say, because those others aren't you.” She attended Jeremiah Burke High School. After graduating she soon realized that the traditional route wasn’t the route for her. She left U Mass, which she had been attending and began exploring her options. Despite what others feared or said, she went to work in different settings and environments. It was at MIT, that she decided to pursue Business Accounting. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Simmons College Continuing Education program for non-traditional-aged students, now known as the Dix Scholars Program. From there she went on to have a successful career with US Bank Trust in Accounting, where she rose to Vice President. Althea was a voracious reader, a passionate lover of figures, travel, all the arts and music, including classical. In living a pivotal and impactful life, her passion for travel led her to explore 5 of the 7 continents with her sister and best friend, JoAnne. If she wasn’t traveling or planning first-time trips for family members; she was absorbing various cultural events by attending Broadway and Off-Broadway productions; exploring museums, art installations and dance; and also attending music concerts and venues. If there was an entertainment vehicle involving cultural exposure, she was there. Her “music crush” was Johnny Mathis. Her passion to touch youth through music brought her to serve as an Advisory Board Member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. To anyone’s betterment, if you were lucky enough to meet and have Althea D. Wright in your life, then you were embraced by the total package. Although we mourn that her physical presence is no longer, we thank the heavens that we had the experience of a beloved daughter, sister, relative and friend. Without that experience we would not be who we are. Thus, when one thinks of Althea, think that “Our Angel” has only transitioned and she is looking down and guiding us. Althea leaves to continue in her memory, sister JoAnne Wright, “adopted” sister Felicia Rose, a host of 1st and 2nd cousins, scores of children embraced as “nieces and nephews” and a host of extended “sisters”, family and friends. We love you Althea……….
